The BBC has recently reported on the outcome of a court case in France brought by around 2,700 women who have suffered due to the use of faulty breast implants.

The implants, manufactured by a French company, Poly Implant Prothese, were found to have been made using silicone gel which had not been passed as suitable for use in humans. Thousands of women worldwide are believed to have suffered from a variety of ailments following the use of the implants.

The court decided that the women who had been affected by the negligent action should receive compensation.

It also found that the German company which certificated the implants was negligent.

Over 500 British women were involved in the court case, but thousands more in the UK are believed to have been affected by the use of the PIP implants.
