The government has published its renewed Women’s Health Strategy with the intention of providing a clear focus on the issues that specifically affect women’s health.

Recognising that, in many respects, the current system ‘is failing women’, the Strategy aims to ensure that women are listened to in regard to their health and care, and that pathways to both diagnosis and treatment of serious conditions such as endometriosis and the menopause are improved. Better management of pain during gynaecological procedures as well as respecting women’s concerns about their health are to be addressed.

As part of the intended improvement in delivering effective healthcare to women, specialist centres are to be established in each region.

The new Strategy has been welcomed by many organisations involved in women’s healthcare such as Endometriosis UK and The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, recognising the government’s ‘commitment to delivering an NHS that works for women’.

However, women health continue to face many challenges in achieving effective healthcare, especially in maternity services as evidenced by the government’s review of maternity services following numerous reports of failings in care.

Here at Glynns we are frequently contacted by women who have been left both damaged and traumatised by their experience of healthcare, especially maternity care.

Occasionally, the damage is such that their lives are fundamentally changed and it is appropriate to claim compensation for the trauma which they have suffered.
