As reported by the BBC, the findings of a recent investigation by the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service identified several failings in the care of Martha Mills, who sadly died from sepsis in 2021.

It was concluded that the failings in Martha’s medical care whilst in hospital included failing to examine her in person following a deterioration in her condition, failing to refer her to Intensive Care when this was appropriate and failing to recognise the severity of her illness.

Sepsis requires an emergency response and this distressing investigation emphasises the importance of competent medical care and early diagnosis.

A failure to recognise or suspect this life-threatening condition can lead to multiple organ failure. Those who survive may suffer permanent physical, cognitive and psychological damage.

If you or a loved one are struggling with the debilitating impact of sepsis medical negligence, it may be possible to claim compensation which can help you to manage the challenges which you now face.

A successful compensation claim can address issues such as a loss of income or the costs of care caused by negligent medical care.
