Following the review into maternity care at Shrewsbury and Telford Hospitals NHS Trust published earlier this year, Donna Ockenden is now in the early stages of another maternity services review in Nottingham.

According to the BBC, more than 200 claims against the city’s maternity services were made between 2005/6 and 2020/21, producing total damages payments of over £100 million.

The review team will establish its terms of reference for its work over the summer and expects the review to be completed within approximately 18 months. This is in order to ensure that the implementation of any recommendations can begin at the earliest possible time.

The Director of Midwifery is reported as saying that ‘we are committed to supporting the review team’s work which, alongside the work of our own improvement team, will ensure we do everything necessary to learn and improve.’
