Brow Lift Surgery

A brow lift is a cosmetic surgery procedure designed to regain a firmer, less wrinkled, and altogether more youthful looking brow and forehead area. Unfortunately, however, mistakes are occasionally made, and the pursuit of a more desirable aesthetic appearance ends in pain, suffering and even disfigurement. If this has happened to you, you need professional legal and medical advice so that you can decide what action, if any, you can take. We can provide you with this advice, and all initial enquiries are completely free of charge. Please read on to see how we can help you, or for immediate advice please call us free on 0800 234 3300 or complete our Online Enquiry Form.

What Is A Brow Lift?

As we age, our skin loses elasticity and our muscles slacken. This can result in a transformation of the face, as more wrinkles appear and excess skin and fat accumulate. A brow lift is a popular way of reversing these unwanted signs of ageing, as it smoothes out wrinkles on the forehead and reduces the amount of loose skin around the eyes.

The procedure itself can be performed under either local or general anaesthetic and will usually take around two hours. One of three techniques may be used by the surgeon:

1. Open

In an open brow lift the surgeon will make an incision across the length of the forehead, either around the hairline or in one of the creases of the forehead.

2. Endoscopic

In an endoscopic brow lift, the surgeon will make several smaller incisions and insert an endoscope (a metal tube with a camera attached to the end) enabling him/her to see the tissues underneath the skin on a television screen.

In both these procedures, the surgeon will remove any excess skin and fatty tissue. The skin is then pulled down and stitched, leaving the brow in a new position.

3. Suture or 'threadlift'

The third technique is to use sutures or threads with tiny 'teeth' which are placed into the brow through a small insertion. The threads are then pulled upwards and secured, and the incision is closed with stitches.

When Does Cosmetic Surgery Amount To Medical Negligence?

After a brow lift, there are many expected side-effects such as bruising, swelling, and scarring that will improve after a relatively short period of time. Even so, it is worth bearing in mind that a brow lift may not be permanent and that some scars may become visible at a later date if, for example, the hairline recedes.

However, there are a number of more serious, long-term complications which may arise as a direct result of medical negligence, including (but not exhaustively):-

  • Asymmetrical eyebrows;
  • Nerve damage potentially leaving you unable to control your forehead or eyebrow movements;
  • Paralysis of the brow and forehead area;
  • Bleeding (haematoma);
  • Accumulation of fluid under the skin;
  • Persistent pain, swelling, or discolouration.
