Medical experts have said that NHS patients will be put at risk if doctors from European countries leave the UK.<\/span><\/p>\n

Some doctors have already departed following the EU referendum, while others are uncertain as to what their future holds.<\/span><\/p>\n

Theresa May refuses to make any guarantees, despite medical experts urging her to safeguard the position of European staff.<\/span><\/p>\n

In a letter to The Times<\/i>, the Federation of Specialist Hospitals warns of the potential consequences of an \u2018EU exodus\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n

Chief executives from hospitals such as the Royal Brompton, Papworth and the Walton Centre say that in some specialist hospitals a quarter of doctors are from the EU. <\/span><\/p>\n

Their skills are so rare that they cannot be replaced by British counterparts, putting NHS patients at risk.<\/span><\/p>\n

The letter reads: \u201cOur ability to provide exceptional care to patients hinges on recruiting and retaining the best clinical talent from the UK and further afield.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cCrucially, this includes the European Union, where up to a quarter of doctors in a given specialist hospital trust may come from other member states, with even higher proportions for some clinical teams.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
