DePuy cut spot checks at their Leeds plant just years before manufacturing errors were uncovered at the company.<\/span><\/p>\n

DePuy is one of the largest manufacturers of hip replacements in the world. But the company has been hit by scandal in recent years, with thousands of patients saying they have been left in pain from faulty hip implants.<\/span><\/p>\n

The complaints relate to two metal-on-metal hip implants called the ASR and the Ultamet, which were discontinued in 2010 and 2013 respectively. The faulty products wear out very quickly, and also carry the risk of depositing toxic ions into the bloodstream.<\/span><\/p>\n

The company is now defending tens of thousands of legal claims from injured patients, and has admitted there were errors \u201cin the measuring techniques\u201d of the Ultamet implant.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sources close to the company have recently revealed that safety measures at the Leeds plant were downgraded in 2006. It has been disclosed that the amount of time spot checking hip implants was halved.<\/span><\/p>\n

Just three years later, serious \u201cquality issues\u201d were uncovered at the company during an audit. It concluded that \u201cactions have not been identified in all cases to correct or prevent recurrence of quality problems\u201d. <\/span><\/p>\n

DePuy has not responded to the findings of the investigation, which was conducted by The Telegraph <\/i>newspaper.<\/span><\/p>\n
