Two doctors have been charged with gross negligence manslaughter after a woman died following an emergency Caesarean section.<\/p>\n
Frances Cappuccini died at Pembury Hospital on 9 October 2012 after giving birth to her second child.<\/p>\n
She had opted to have an elective C-section but was \u201creluctantly\u201d persuaded to progress with a natural birth by healthcare professionals.<\/p>\n
The 30 year old primary school teacher went on to need an emergency Caesarean section. She suffered a massive haemorrhage and died of a cardiac arrest after spending just hours with her new born son, Jack.<\/p>\n
He is being raised by Mrs Cappuccini\u2019s husband, along with their older son Luca.<\/p>\n
After a police investigation, the Crown Prosecution Service has decided to charge two doctors with gross negligence manslaughter.<\/p>\n
A charge of corporate manslaughter has also been brought against Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust. The Trust admits full liability.<\/p>\n
At a pre-inquest review hearing, the family\u2019s barrister said Mrs Cappuccini\u2019s death could have been prevented, had she been allowed to follow her original birth plan.<\/p>\n
A full inquest will be heard in February next year. This will explore the care provided to Mrs Cappuccini in detail, including why she was not given a blood transfusion earlier.<\/p>\n
