A senior transplant surgeon has been accused of postponing an operation on an NHS patient in order to treat a private patient.<\/p>\n
Imperial College NHS Trust alleges that Professor Nadey Hakim delayed a kidney and pancreas transplant so that he could treat a patient at his private Harley Street practice.<\/p>\n
It is thought Professor Hakim was suspended last year. A recent investigation has led to him being dismissed for gross misconduct.<\/p>\n
He has since stepped down from his position as surgical director at the West London Renal and Transplant Centre at Hammersmith Hospital.<\/p>\n
Professor Hakim denies the allegations but has not offered a statement for legal reasons.<\/p>\n
An Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust spokesperson said: \u201cWe take the safety of our patients extremely seriously and have conducted a thorough investigation.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThe private patient involved in this case was not a patient at one of our hospitals. We can confirm that this member of staff is no longer working at the Trust.\u201d<\/p>\n
