Through education, information and a wide range of services, including the CaudaEquina App, this dynamic charity brings together people worldwide to share experiences and support and understanding.<\/p>\n<p>The annual awareness day aims to increase understanding as widely as possible of the impact of this debilitating condition and the need for early medical intervention. <\/p>\n<p>Cauda equina syndrome is caused by compression of the cauda equina nerves in the lumbar region of the spine and requires early diagnosis and surgery to decompress the spine in order to avoid the patient suffering a lifetime of disability.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, the symptoms, such as bilateral leg pain, urinary difficulties and perineal sensation losses, are sometimes missed or misdiagnosed by medical professionals leaving the patient struggling with long-term loss of mobility, difficulties with both bladder and bowel function as well as sexual dysfunction.<\/p>\n<p>Claims for medical negligence can be both complex and high-value, reflecting the multiple disabilities which can result from a delay in diagnosis.
