A new report by the British Heart Foundation Wales, marking National Heart Month, has drawn attention to gender inequalities in the diagnosis and treatment of coronary heart disease.<\/p>\n
A survey carried out by the charity suggested that many people do not perceive women as being at risk of heart disease and that around a third of women are not confident in their recognition of heart attack symptoms.<\/p>\n
The foundation further noted the following concerns:<\/p>\n
\u2022\tThat women are more likely to be misdiagnosed or diagnosed slowly
\n\u2022\tThat women are less likely to receive optimal treatment
\n\u2022\tThat women are more likely to experience difficulties accessing cardiac rehabilitation<\/p>\n
In reference to the report, the BBC highlighted the key symptoms of a heart attack as follows:<\/p>\n
\u2022\tChest pain
\n\u2022\tPain down your left arm, neck, jaw, back
\n\u2022\tFeeling nauseous
\n\u2022\tFeeling light-headed
\n\u2022\tShortness of breath
\n\u2022\tCoughing
\n\u2022\tAnxiety <\/p>\n
