A recent report by The Independent newspaper revealed the concerns of midwives working in maternity services overseen by the Nottingham University Hospitals Trust.<\/p>\n
Since 2010, numerous incidents at the Trust have resulted in nineteen stillbirths and dozens of babies being left with brain damage.<\/p>\n
Medical negligence claims against the Trust are on-going and, according to the Independent\u2019s report, so far more that \u00a391million in compensation has so far been paid out to families affected by the poor level of care.<\/p>\n
Midwives working within the Trust have apparently commented to The Independent that there continue to be insufficient resources to provide safe care and that \u201cwomen are still at risk of harm.\u201d<\/p>\n
In a report by the BBC it was noted that the Care Quality Commission had identified the quality of maternity care at both Queen\u2019s Medical Centre and Nottingham City Hospital as \u2018inadequate\u2019 only last year.<\/p>\n
The government\u2019s own inquiry into the state of maternity care in England last month identified concerns regarding staffing levels and patient safety.<\/p>\n
