A GP has been struck off for falsifying a patient\u2019s records to cover up a failure in her medical care.<\/p>\n
According to the BBC report, although the GP originally recorded that the patient had shortness of breath and a chronic cough, she failed to refer her for an x-ray. In fact, she failed to make an appropriate referral on two occasions.<\/p>\n
When the patient was later diagnosed with lung cancer, the GP, Dr Rahim, amended her records to state that the patient had no shortness of breath.<\/p>\n
Had the GP instigated the appropriate actions by making a referral for the patient, it is possible that the patient\u2019s cancer may have been diagnosed at an earlier stage.<\/p>\n
The actions of the GP were described by the tribunal as \u2018wholly inappropriate\u2019 and that they \u2018went to the heart of patient trust\u2019.<\/p>\n
