The BBC has recently reported on an astonishing case where a patient was diagnosed incorrectly with a rare form of blood cancer.<\/p>\n

Following the diagnosis at Kent and Canterbury Hospital, the patient, Mrs Johnston, underwent 18 months of chemotherapy, causing an array of distressing and debilitating side-effects. Having been told that her immune system was now compromised, she was obliged to give up her job as an auxiliary nurse.<\/p>\n

Pursuing a second opinion, Mrs Johnston was advised by Guy\u2019s Hospital in London that, in fact, she did not have cancer of the blood.<\/p>\n

The medical professionals involved in her original diagnosis had failed to arrange for an ultrasound and bone marrow biopsy to be carried out prior to diagnosis.<\/p>\n
