Unfortunately the severity of her injury was not fully recognised at the time, leaving Gill needing to be fitted with a stoma. Determined to show that life with a stoma need not prevent an individual from living life to the full, Gill has, amongst other things, been sky-diving, scuba-diving and competing as a triathlete – and putting her experiences on her website (www.stomachameleon.com) and Facebook page. She hopes to inspire other women who have suffered similar experiences during childbirth to live the lives they want to and not be deterred by having a stoma.

Gill’s training for her Channel Swim begins in earnest later this year with a training camp where she will meet the boat pilot who will accompany her in 2023, as well as undertake practice swims of up to six hours!

Understanding the trauma which many women experience during childbirth, Glynns is delighted to be able to support Gill’s impressive aims and is sponsoring her first swim training camp.

Good luck, Gill!

Legal Advice

If you are struggling to cope with the impact of an undiagnosed severe tear during the birth of your baby, it may be appropriate to make a claim for compensation.

Contact us here at Glynns, specialists in medical negligence compensation, to talk to one of our expert solicitors.

Please call us on 0800 234 3300 (or from a mobile 01275 334030) or complete our Online Enquiry Form.

Gillian Castle, one of Glynns’ former clients, has taken the awe-inspiring decision to swim the English Channel in 2023 to raise funds for and awareness of the Birth Trauma Association (BTA).
