The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) is the organisation which regulates the conduct of solicitors in England and Wales.<\/p>\n
After a considerable re-think, the existing handbook has been substantially revised and new SRA standards and regulations come into effect today (25th November 2019).<\/p>\n
The new regulations are based on seven essential principles:<\/p>\n
Solicitors should act:<\/p>\n
\u2022\tIn a way that upholds the constitutional principle of the rule of law, and the proper administration of justice;
\n\u2022\tIn a way that upholds public trust and confidence in the solicitors\u2019 profession and the legal services provided by authorised persons;
\n\u2022\tWith independence;
\n\u2022\tWith honesty;
\n\u2022\tWith integrity;
\n\u2022\tIn a way that encourages equality, diversity and inclusion;
\n\u2022\tIn the best interests of each client.<\/p>\n
There will now be a separate code of conduct for solicitors and law firms. Solicitors will also be able to carry out freelance and unregulated work.<\/p>\n
A key aspect of the new regulations are the new Accounts Rules which have been streamlined with a clear and primary focus on the need to protect client money. <\/p>\n
