As reported by the BBC, the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) has announced plans for a new Centre for Drug Discovery based in London.<\/p>\n

Bringing together 300 scientists with a range of specialisms, the project intends to develop a new form of cancer treatment with drugs which will respond to the way in which cancer cells evolve and survive. This ability of cancer cells to adapt is a problem with the way in which cancer is currently tackled. <\/p>\n

It is hoped that a new approach can be found but new drugs which are currently under development will require years of testing before any fundamental treatment changes are introduced.<\/p>\n

The Chief Executive of the ICR, Professor Paul Workman, is quoted as saying that the hope is \u201cto find ways to make cancer a manageable disease in the long term and one that is more often curable, so patients can live longer and with a better quality of life.\u201d<\/p>\n
