Following analysis of the Chancellor\u2019s budget statement earlier this week, The Health Foundation has observed that, in real terms, health spending on those areas not specifically targeted by the spending increase, may actually decrease by \u00a31 billion.<\/p>\n

Although what are termed \u2018front-line services\u2019, such as the day-to-day provision of public healthcare in hospitals and related services, are due to receive a real-terms increase in funding in the year 2019-2020, broader funding of the health service is due to receive a \u00a31billion real-terms cut.<\/p>\n

This is likely to affect areas such as capital expenditure on buildings and equipment as well as training provision and funding of public health initiatives.<\/p>\n

As reported by the BBC, Labour MP Barbara Keeley commented that such a cut would be \u201cincredibly short-sighted given the workforce challenges in the NHS\u201d. Over 100,000 posts within the NHS are currently vacant, including over 40,000 nursing jobs.<\/p>\n
