NHS heads are calling on the chancellor and prime minister for urgent additional funding, warning that, without a significant cash injection, key medical services are under threat.<\/p>\n
In recent days, according to The Times, Jim Mackey, chief executive of NHS Improvement, Simon Stevens, chief executive of NHS England, and Chris Hopson, chief executive of NHS Providers have all alerted the government to the imminent likely impact of funding constraints on waiting times, cancer diagnoses, child mental health and staffing levels.<\/p>\n
It was pointed out that a substantial increase in funding is required in order to equal health funding levels in France and Germany. Whilst Mr Stevens is calling for \u00a34billion additional funding next year, the shadow health secretary, Jon Ashworth, has called for an extra \u00a36billion according to The Times.<\/p>\n
Mr Stevens observed that patients have a right to know how their health service is likely to suffer without sufficient funding, whilst Chris Hopson commented that \u201cWe have reached the point where it is no longer possible to meet those NHS constitutional performance standards.\u201d<\/p>\n
