Jeremy Hunt, the current Health Secretary, has criticised the number of prescription mistakes being made, leading to high numbers of patients requiring hospital admission.<\/p>\n

According to a recent report in The Times, between 5 and 8% of hospital admissions are due to errors in medication. That may relate to the prescription of the incorrect medication or an inappropriate dose.<\/p>\n

As calculated by The Times, this could result in around one million unnecessary hospital admissions due to medication mistakes.<\/p>\n

An NHS review is due to investigate ways to improve processes and reduce the likelihood of mistakes occurring.<\/p>\n

The Times further quoted the response of Helen Stokes-Lampard, chairwoman of the Royal College of GPs who, whilst calling for hard-working medical practitioners not to be the butt of criticism, commented that \u201cwhat we really need is a properly funded NHS.\u201d<\/p>\n
