The BBC has revealed concerns about the competence of a brain surgeon operating in Coventry and Warwickshire Hospitals.

The report focused on two brain cancer operations where the neurosurgeon, Mr El-Maghraby, removed healthy parts of the brain instead of the tumour.

In both cases, the patient subsequently died.

According to the BBC’s investigations, Mr El-Maghraby’s work has been described by a fellow neurosurgeon as “very rough surgery”.

Although he continues to perform operations, Mr El-Maghraby has been prevented from undertaking two specific forms of spinal and brain surgery.
