Compensation Amounts For Medical Negligence UK Septicaemia

The amount of compensation you will receive for a septicaemia claim will depend upon the injuries you have sustained.

Septicaemia medical negligence

Septicaemia is when the blood becomes infected with bacteria. It needs to be diagnosed and treated immediately, or serious complications could arise. If treatment is not provided in time, the patient may not survive. If the patient does survive there may be a long period of recovery, as well as permanent problems such as fibromyalgia, cognitive dysfunction and chronic fatigue.

If long-term or fatal complications arise due to medical errors, there could be a case of medical negligence. Medical errors can include failing to diagnose septicaemia, failing to urgently treat septicaemia, or failing to provide the correct septicaemia treatment. There may also be grounds for a claim if the actions of medical practitioners cause a patient to develop septicaemia – for instance, by failing to administer antibiotics when required.

If there is a case of medical negligence, you will be entitled to pursue a claim for compensation. If the claim relates to a partner or family member who has died, you are able to make a claim on behalf of their estate. To find out if you can claim, you simply need to speak to a medical negligence solicitor.

If you do pursue legal action and your claim is successful, you will be awarded compensation. The amount of compensation you receive will depend upon the extent of pain and suffering you have endured, and the extent of financial loss you have incurred.

Therefore it is impossible to say exactly how much you could receive. However, it is worth bearing in mind that a compensation settlement is divided into:

  • 1. General damages – which reflect the pain and suffering you have experienced, and will continue to experience in the future
  • 2. Special damages – which reflect your financial losses, including past and future loss of earnings

Therefore if you have been left with a permanent disability, and this has left you unable to work, your compensation settlement is likely to be substantial.
